By profession, I'm a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages. I've lived in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Along the way, I have composed some short stories of some of my experiences. The title of this blog is one of the short stories I wrote about a semi-true experience I had in Japan. I say, 'semi' as actually all the individual events are true. They just didn't necessarily happen in the order I told in the story. Or some details were clipped from other details. For example, I don't actually remember what the display menu originally looked like at McDonald's over 15 years ago - but many of the McDonald knock-off restaurants would use a Japanese script or both English and Japanese.

This format is true of most, if not all, of my stories about life overseas- the basis of the story is true, and so are the separate details. But in putting the story together some license was taken with the order of events; or details of something or some similar event were sheared and attached to the event in the story.

I might add some other types of scribblings later - commentary on events in Thailand, socio-political-economic commentary, etc. but for now it's just going to be stories, added very slowly, one at at time. I'd like to dedicate more time to writing but I'm also working on a thesis here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, so additions will come in glacially slow increments.
